HAMPTON LUCY BRIDGE 1829 Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire HEW 1050 SP 258 572 N52o 12’ 44.0” W1o 37’ 27.2”
As befits the calling of the Rev. John Lucy whose family seat was nearby Charlecote House and who paid for this bridge in 1829, it has a lovely gothic ecclesiastical theme. To replace the historic ford and wooden foot bridge over the Avon River at Hampton Lucy the Horseley Ironworks fabricated a shallow-arched cast iron bridge with 60 and a half foot span using four segmented ribs which are stiffened at the segment joints by flat iron bars and circular rods. The spandrel lattice work has gothic details and the sand stone abutments on the east end are pierced with five pointed gothic arches.
To find the bridge, go through Hampton Lucy heading east and the bridge crosses the Avon at the east side of town.
